Easington Lane Community Access Point is a registered charity and has provided community transport based at its centre at Easington Lane for more than 10 years.

COVID Restrictions

During this time of Lockdown 3.0 we are not currently providing any of our normal Passenger Transport Services but are busy delivering hot meals, afternoon teas and school breakfasts.

As and when restrictions are lifted our transport services will be amended accordingly.

Our Mission

We aim to provide a specialist and caring Transport Service that improve's our service user's Quality of life. We seek to achieve this by providing a service that is accessible and dependable to the voluntary sector and our partners in the Coalfields area of Sunderland and beyond from our operational base in Easington Lane.

To be an efficient, effective, sustainable community transport service putting our customers and communities first. To work together with Coalfield area committee and our partnership agencies (eg Sunderland City Council's Coalfield Area Committee and the 3 Together Big Local) to improve the quality of life and wellbeing of all communities in the Coalfield area by providing a customer focused transport service aimed at improving access to health, education, social and economic opportunities to all sectors of the community and to help with social isolation

Our Fleet

Our fleet currently comprises four vehicles, one of which is an accessible minibus. We require all our vehicles to undergo bi-monthly safety inspections at an external garage. This is to ensure that they are always roadworthy and comply with the latest regulations.

Our Services

We provide a service to a growing number of local community groups including Lunch clubs, Disabled Clubs, Youth Clubs, Schools, Churches and Residents' Associations. We pride ourselves on the reputation we have gained for providing a reliable service with that personal, friendly touch which we believe is the main reason for the repeat business we continue to attract.

Shopping Bus

We offer a door-to-door service for our Shopping Bus Service. Our drivers will pick up passengers at a pre-arranged time and date, take them to the relevant supermarket and then drop them off at their home, ensuring the safe return of both passenger and groceries.


We offer and provide travel to Community Group all year round to a range of exciting and varied places, including markets, events, shopping, theatre, seaside and scenic routes etc. Our groups include people of all ages and abilities and we welcome new groups and individuals to join us. The trip charges contribute towards our Community Transport and general running costs etc and help us maintain the quality service that we provide.

Our services make a massive difference to our passengers, for we know that the service helps them:

  • people feel safe
  • eliminates the feeling of isolation
  • increases independence
  • sees our passengers making new friends
  • in their physical and mental health and well-being

Want to Hire a Bus?

All hirers need to be part of a community group and the nominated driver must hold a valid Midas Certificate and hold the D1 entitlement on their licence, which allows you to drive a vehicle up to 16 passenger seats but only as part of a not for hire or reward scheme, like ELCAP's. Those who passed their test prior to 1997 will have automatically held the D1 entitlement, but will still need to check your licence for this category as it may have been removed due to certain medical conditions.

Or you could hire a bus with one of ELCAP's drivers.

Want to Volunteer?

The same rules apply as above in that drivers need to have the D1 entitlement and we would be happy to support potential volunteer drivers in gaining the Midas Certificate.

As well as drivers, we also offer Passenger Assistant roles to assist our passengers and their needs.
